Polishing the resume

Have heard from unimpeachable source that performance is a non-issue, and that employment issues are directly centered around my ethnicity.  Aka, while the department thinks I rock, the administration is basically pulling a Dallas.

Have found a couple VERY interesting potential jobs locally, one of which would be right up my alley and kick butt; will be applying shortly.

Well that partly sucks that you’re qualified but are losing based on non-performance issues. Still, if you found other jobs that need and want you – move on.

  2. It’s slightly more complicated than that. I’ll probably HAVE to be accepted for the interim position again (I’m the high-slot recommendee). But my chance of making it from interim to full-time status is next to zero with the current gatekeepers, who are unlikely to change.

Under those circumstances, I’d be an idiot to stay, and worse not to begin planning my exit.

Bah, that blows. Never know when things will change, however. I’ve been surprised at how things have worked out for myself. Anyway, hope it works out, and soon.

  4. It DOES blow, and the hell of it is that I don’t actually think anybody involved is in a comfortable situation. The guy who’s the problem isn’t a bigot — he’s in a position where his decisions get reviewed by other entities, too, and per my understanding (that’s all we have, unlike the private sector, nobody ever gets to actually know anything), he’s under significant pressure to diversify the dep’t. Problem being, my field doesn’t tend to draw a lot of qualified applicants on that front — they tend to either be fantastic scholars who blow past JuCo on their way to tenure somewhere, or else to wind up working for Dallas County, where they’re actively (specifically) recruited.
