Alternate Power means a lot of landscape

These folks are trying to make it happen, and folks in the Southwest seem to approve of the idea… but you’re going to chew up some real estate.  Less than a comparable windfarm, though, once you count in the 3-D space.  I think, though, of all the times I’ve seen a measly 10 acres for sale on speculation out in West Texas near Pecos, and….. hrm… if 4 of those could provide enough power to create fresh water for some of the rest of it, even Loving County might see a population!

And, of course, politics is already playing a huge part…

Which is why more solar panels should be put on roofs of buildings, or, over parking lots so those cars are not baking in the sun. There is lots of landscape available for these, but it will involve the political angle of people accepting function over appearance.

  2. Actually, that’s not politics at all. That’s the way real-estate functions via leased buildings… precisely why the solar-as-a-service guys are onto something.

Yeah, now that the dumbass freeze on solar power expansion in the SW has been lifted. I am assuming you guys heard about that one. Where the Feds put a freeze on solar power farm development in the SW due to environmental concerns. I am NOT kidding.

Good thing it got stomped on hard. But this is another great missed opportunity for Bush, can you imagine the political hay he could have made out of that?

Could have. He’s a surprisingly successful and competent politician when he bothers…
