Civvy I remain

’nuff said.  Couldn’t guarantee the no relocation part.. which is a dealbreaker for family itself relocating from the West Coast to be near.

Damn. I was hoping it work out. You would be good at it, but you have your priorities and I don’t disagree with your decision one bit.

Too bad though, I was looking forward to calling you “Chief”.

I was, too. But I can’t con the bro into moving that far, and then give him a load of it when he points out “I’m literally trashing my career to live on your street, and you can’t guarantee that Uncle Sugar won’t move you.”

Though if Bush’s “civilian reserve” gets any traction, I may be able to do something with that…

Isn’t the “civilian reserve” just a fancy name for “contractor”?

I dunno – I’m going to have to learn more about this program. I’m intrigued as well and would love to move from permanent 4F status to something more useful every now and then. Then again, my skills may not be useful in the type of program being described, at least from the details given on NPR from one of its chief proponents.

  6. I always say that things happen for a reason. Case in point = your comment about your brother moving closer. It certainly would mess things up for you both if you suddenly had to up and move.

Yep to both of you. I’m not the “contractor” type… happycrow isn’t a hyper monkey. (Though there is a sizeable contingent claiming that I am, in fact, an overgrown ferret, so maybe I protest too much.)

In my case, since I’m ramping up the languages, that’s an area in which I would hope to actually be useful…
