Another “fake but accurate” photo at NYT?

(Argh.  Blog burp.  Accidentally deleted a post that was meant to be modified.)

I believe that NYT has gotten suckered again, this time on its very first-page, above-the fold photo.

It corresponds to standard Pallywood/Hezbollywood iconographic rules:

  1. Trashed building. Check.
  2. Woman in front of trashed building (with kid).  Check.
  3. Child’s toy at photographic balance (focal point) of shot?  Check.

But… I could have sworn I saw this very same building a couple weeks ago on fire/dust everywhere.  And the shadows don’t work.  The building’s shadow doesn’t match the shadow of the men in the background, which doesn’t seem to match the shadow of the little girl’s doll.  Also, Man#1 (white shirt) has a shadow not in line with the shadows of Men #s 2-4.  The shadow of Man #1 would work with the doll.  #s2-4, not.

Now, what I *meant* to modify, was to say that I’m now not entirely certain about that doll’s arm.  I still don’t think the angle is right (in fact, I don’t think the color palette for the woman matches the rest of the photo at all, it’s like the brightness was somehow messed with).

The building is still clearly not in accordance with the men, though.  The area in shadow that’s right in front of us should be much, much less shaded, if at all, based on where those men’s shadows are.

Update:  Welcome, GatewayPundit readers.  It’s possible that I’m just being paranoid, in the wake of Reutersgate and previous NYT fauxtography.  If you think I’m off and can substantiate it, by all means let me know.  I have a strict no-troll policy, but all reasonable responses will be retained.

  1. No link. Dead Tree Edition.

  2. JimDesu: check the link to GatewayPundit, they have a photo there. Looks a touch different than the dead tree version, but that’s inevitable.
