What is in the Bekaa Valley?

Haaretz reports that Syria will get involved directly if Israel “approaches Syria.”

Take a look at TruthLaidBear’s Handy Regional Map.

So what is being saying,in effect is, “Remember China during the Korean War?  If you go for the kill in Baalbek, that’s what we’re going to do.”

There’s some threat in that, as it would involve a largely-exposed right flank.  On the other hand, it would involve putting Syria’s armor assets in harm’s way.  While Israel’s Air Force seems to be stuck in early-1990s thinking by way of overestimating the efficacy of air power applied solely, an exposed armored column is another matter entirely.

Assad’s regime cannot survive if it loses its armored assets.  So what is in the Bekaa valley that is that important?
