/ January 26, 2007I was wondering if you would catch this one. Did you read the earlier one about the hybrid Phalanx/laser system that Raytheon has developed? The IDF is supposed to get some testable prototypes this year for the Gaza border.

/ January 26, 2007Define THEL for me. My reason for asking is that the many non-classified miltech I get to see now on a daily basis from AFRL has been heavy on UAVs. Morphing wing structures will be in place maybe even this spring for a DARPA study in Afghanistan – 5 UAVs to cover the entire country vs. 18 now.

/ January 26, 2007Ah, it’s about time!
Mike
/ January 27, 2007All sorts of goodies are coming out. We just had an article on the next offroad utility vehicle to replace the Humvee. Woah. I don’t ever see any civilian being able to legally own one in the US unless he or she is a collector, and I don’t see anyone ever being allowed to drive it in normal traffic (although I sure would like to).
Alex
/ January 27, 2007Was the new vehicle the composite-based one being produced by TPI, or something else?

/ January 27, 2007I don’t know the new vehicle, but THEL, is, and Mike can correct me, Transportable High-Energy Laser.
Alex
/ January 27, 2007Ah, no UAV-THEL, but the newest concept is the disposable detonating UAV. Think V-1 buzz bomb with intelligence and more guidance capability than a cruise missile and you get the idea.

/ January 27, 2007I want my raygun and flying car as soon as we can get them off the shelves!

/ January 27, 2007Me too. Will revolutionize hunting for deer!
Mike
/ January 28, 2007There are several designs in the running. I like the Oskosh one myself (they make Hemmits, great trucks). Armored, properly built to withstand bombs, great suspension. Good stuff.
